I've been gradually expanding the secrets page with further screenshots, reward details, template elements and such... But I've started to run into odd problems, where the editor rejects a photo for no apparent reason, or just sits and spins instead of saving a source update. I suspect the underlying issue is that the full list has grown a bit too "epic" for one page to be suitable.
I'm not confident that my wiki skills are good enough to divide the current list into multiple linked pages without messing something up - could you give it a shot?
Thanks again for all the work you've done on the page, I don't think I would have had the patience to gather all of that missing info.
The Do&De:Adv Secrets page was always a hassle to modify, I didn't plan on improving it until I had a more stable format in mind for this page. I tend to keep pages simple unless I have a clear idea of how to improve the page and the skills to do it. Another concern I had was to make sure it was mobile-friendly. So...I was waiting to have a simple mobile-friendly layout, but I'm still not sure.
I have a few ideas though:
- create a template for collapsible tables, where the screenshot, the details and the rewards would be neatly divided into separate cells. Think of the navbox at the bottom of the class pages (this one)...I could create something similar to that
- place the secrets into a 100% page width portable infobox. It would appear collapsed on page load and it looks good for mobile users. I'm not a big fan of page-wide frame-like tables though..
- split the secrets into different pages (divided by updates or chapters maybe) with tabviews (like on the weapons and gear pages...)
- OR...simplest solution: arrange the format like the Secrets (Doom & Destiny) page with each secret divided into headings and all of the elements straight on the page, without a container (tables, etc) for them. It would mean the secrets wouldn't be collapsible, but I don't think many visitors would see that as having too many spoilers, who knows...
Hmm. I was thinking along the lines of separate pages.
Some of my technical issues may arise simply from the amount of content. (IIRC, the Italian site had the secret list divided among a dozen or so pages, perhaps for good reason.) I'm not confident that changing the format would help. The tabviews of separate content pages probably would.
Upon reflection, I consider the data format to be a largely separate issue. The main complaint I have about the current list is stylistic inconsistency, which is... vaguely irritating, but hardly a deal-breaker. A template would reduce that, but there's enough variety in the secrets that edge cases would probably cause headaches. (How to assign the different rewards you can "fall into" at the Plateau Temple to the correct boxes?) If there's a change you'd like to try out, by all means - but I don't consider it an urgent problem.
Sorry, I think I misread your initial comment. I agree that it's a bit too long, but if we're going to be fixing this page, I'd rather address the issues with the less-than-convenient style at the same time.
So maybe from kind of grouping of secrets on separate pages, like the italian "altervista" site did, would work best. The tabview would produce two different displays according to the platform it's viewed on. On the PC version of the wiki, it would appear much like at the weapons page (oasis skin), but on mobile screens (mercury skin), links to the pages would be displayed instead of displaying tabs.
Thanks for helping out, I was getting a bit overwhelmed by all that needs to be done, hehe
I think it would be best to list the items in a table with distinct columns, ex of columns titles: Icon, Item or Name, Description, Purpose (in the cells, you specify "unlocks x power" or "needed for x quest", etc). It would be neater imo.
Instead of explaining each power, you could add an link to the "Item Powers" section the powers page. It would make the table less clunky, plus you wouldn't have to explain the powers twice.
